Physician Assistants

Jay H. Johnston, MMS, PA-C

Jay Johnston is board certified by the National Commision on Certification of Physician Assistants and is licensed with the Florida State Board of Medical Examiners. Jay is also a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants.

Jay joined the staff at the Orthopaedic Center of Vero Beach in 2006.  He graduated from the University of Central Florida in Orlando, FL with a Bachelor of Science degree in Molecular and Microbiology in 2003.  He then attended Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida where he earned his Masters degree in Medical Science and Bachelor of Science degree in Physician Assistant studies in 2006.

Jay moved to Vero Beach in 2006 with his family. In his spare time he enjoys playing golf, fishing, and spending time with his wife and three children.
 







Carol Koiro, MS, PA-C, ATC

Carol Koiro is board certified by the National Commision on Certification of Physician Assistants and is licensed with the Florida State Board of Medical Examiners. Carol is also a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants.

Carol Koiro joined the staff at the Orthopaedic Center of Vero Beach, PA in August of 2010. She graduated from Stockton State College of New Jersey with a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science in 1987. In 1997 she obtained a Master Degree of Education, Physical Education/Athletic Training and Sports Medicine at Temple University of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Graduating from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in 2010, Carol was awarded a Master of Science degree in Physician Assistant Studies.

Carol has a very diverse background consisting of 16 years of clinical sports medicine experience. Previously, Carol worked as a Certified Athletic Trainer with all levels of athletes including professional teams such as the Philadelphia Rage (American Basketball League), Philadelphia Kixx (National Professional Soccer League) and the Philadelphia Charge (Women’s United Soccer Association). Additionally, Carol served as a volunteer Head Athletic Trainer for the USA National Judo Team’s 1997 European Tour and Head Athletic Trainer for Region 1 Olympic Development Program Soccer Teams during their 1998 & 2000 European Tours.

Carol’s athletic training and rehabilitative experience has given her keen insight into the importance of treating the “whole” patient and finding solutions to keep them active.
